Educators

ABW PhotoEducators who run the ABW programs at their school learn to stand back and watch as the students take charge. As the week evolves, students develop new skills and confidence and groups develop a sense of cohesion and tolerance. Many schools comment that ABW sets students/staff relationships on a new footing for the important final years. In addition, the school benefits through renewed and inspired business partnerships with their local community.

Educators Benefits

"I was excited to see the students tackle an almost insurmountable number of tasks and not only do it, but do it on their own" a comment from a teacher running the School Program.

Teachers value the program because it:

  • Gives them new understandings about their students
  • Gives them new ways of thinking about teaching
  • Gives their students a chance to achieve a tangible goal

Why run an ABW Program in your school?

  • To foster and develop enterprise skills which will allow participants maximum flexibility and adaptability in the future
  • Build self-esteem and allow all students to recognise their own strengths and build on them
  • Provide a sense of cohesion and tolerance (often hard to develop within a year group)
  • Observe the personal growth of students and the work-related key competencies in action, such as co-operative group work, problem solving, communication and planning

How do teachers benefit from the program?

  • An opportunity to make their subject "live" by inviting a guest speaker from their subject area. There are 20 minute videos designed to be supported by a guest speaker from finance, marketing and operations in any business eg pottery, plumbing or pharmacy.
  • A renewed understanding of teamwork - school staff observe the synergy that teamwork delivers and this can lead to a more cohesive, co-operative staff.
  • A variety of experiences, different to normal school curriculum, which can assist to identify previously undiscovered and talented students. The team decision making process gives students with low self esteem the confidence to participate and succeed.
  • Business links with their local community
