The ACT does not currently give accreditation to Community Organisation Programs like ABW.

New South Wales does not currently give accreditation to Community Organisation Programs like ABW.

The ABW In-School is recognised as a Community Developed Program by the SACE Board as part of the Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training (NTCET). Students participating in the program will receive 10 credits at Stage 1 level.

Each student participating in the ABW Program must meet the set criteria to receive the credits. Teachers need to assess the students on the criteria and send students results to ABW. ABW will then issue the student with a certificate recognising their achievement, a copy of this certificate then needs to be sent to the SACE board along with a copy of the Application form.

The ABW program has been formally recognised by the Office of Tasmanian Assessment , Standards and Certification (TASC). Eligible students who participate in the program will receive 5 credit points towards their Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE).

To receive recognition students need to meet the set criteria to receive the points. Teachers need to assess the students on the criteria and send students results to ABW who will then forward the results onto TASC. ABW will then issue the student with a certificate recognising their achievement.

ABW provides a medium for attaining many outcomes across all strands of VCAL. ABW has mapped the program to the Foundation, Intermediate and Senior Levels for the work related skills and personal development skills strands.

ABW students are provided with a myriad of information and gain knowledge of one of the manufacturing, hospitality, retail or information technology industries. Participation in the program facilitates the development of teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills that are necessary to function in the workplace.

The program engaged students with a hands on program, a real experience to enable students to develop and demonstrate the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to be part of a team and take on a role in business. ABW provides an alternative to generating specifically designed tasks that meet all assessment criteria.

VCAL is all about intergrated curriculum and this provides opportunities in all four strands. Students have to communicate, work together, meet deadlines and develop a sense of the costs and responsibilities of decision making.

The School Curriculum and Standards Authority has re-endorsed the ABW In-School Program as a Provider-developed program. Such programs recognise the significant learning opportunities provided by private providers that result in the achievement of a quality assured award or certificate.

Students completing the ABW In-School Program can count this learning towards their senior secondary graduation certificate – the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE). They will receive one unit equivalent towards the WACE depth and breadth requirement of 20 units.

On successful completion of the program, ABW will provide students with a certificate of achievement. This certificate provides the evidence that schools require to report the achievement to the Authority. To implement processes to gather, verify and record details of the programs undertaken by their students for audit purposes ABW has designed a template to record students’ results.
